Summer’s Dawn

Here’s a nice laid-back jazz waltz using three chords.

This may be more challenging than it first looks. The opening chord is in two sharps and then goes to no flats or sharps. This is a kind of loop that descends from A7 to F7 and then back up to A7. So while Eb is a great note for that F7, don’t use it anywhere else unless you know what you’re doing! 

But you do have five “common notes” that can get you though the entire form. Now, you might notice the Eb in the Idea Starter. Why is that over a G7? Well, it’s what we’ll call a blue note. You probably wouldn’t want to lean on it for too long, but it adds a nice flavor in that phrase.
