Caribbean Express

If you like Salsa, this is for you.

Salsa relies heavily on its rhythm so as you play over this track, keep your rhythms very deliberate. Listen for opportunities to hit those macho downbeats interspersed with off-beats. Listen to the rhythms of the background vibraphone as a guide to play off of. Remember, this is basic dance music, not complicated or sophisticated harmonic structures.

Play a line, then repeat that line with a little bit of variation, then maybe again to complete the phrase based on another variation. Watch people dance to salsa. Their moves using their hips and feet are purposeful and very deliberate. So should be your improvisation over this type of music.
