Ear Training

Ear training typically means identifying intervals, singing scales, or passing theory exams. "What's the name of this chord?" Those exercises have value, they're only useful if they help you make better music.

I think of eeal ear training as being about building a direct connection between what you hear, what you imagine, and what you play. It's learning to hear musical ideas, anticipate sounds before you perform them, and respond musically in the moment.

The articles in this section show you how your listening shapes every aspect of musicianship from improvisation and rhythm to harmony and creativity. The better you learn to listen, the better you'll play. It's really that simple.
