This course is both a resource and a community built to help you become the jazz improviser you aspire to be. In video below, I’ll show you how to get the most out of the course. The better you understand the many ways you can journey through Improvisation Savvy, the more rewarding and transformational your experience will be.
Improvisation Savvy is designed for everyone—from complete beginners to seasoned jazz musicians. At any point in your musical journey, there’s always room to grow your connection between your inner musical ear and your instrument. Developing that connection is central to this course and can lead to breakthroughs in your improvisation.
This is not a traditional, linear course. You don’t need to start at Lesson 1 and go step-by-step to the end. Instead, I encourage you to explore. Look through the course outline and jump into the modules or topics that feel most relevant—whether that’s timing, theory, ear training, or even mindset.
Unlike most courses that lean heavily on written theory, Improvisation Savvy emphasizes oral learning. You’ll be guided to rely more on your ears than your eyes—treating your ear like a muscle that gets stronger with use. This approach will help you play with more fluidity, musicality, and joy.
Some lessons include additional materials—ebooks, audio files, exercises—all designed to support deeper learning. When there’s more than one, you’ll find them organized in tabbed sections beneath the video. Be sure to engage with them actively; watching videos alone won’t make you a great improviser, but practicing with these tools just might.
