Bailey’s Walk Quiz

Now that you’ve oriented your ear to Bailey’s Walk, here’s the quiz track to test how well you hear the progression in another key. Like all “quizzes” in Groovz Playground, there is no scoring, just your own evaluation of how you play over this track.

Don’t just dive in once you start the track. Instead, listen to the track, sing a few pitches that work with the track to orient your ear, THEN start to play over it with your instrument. Test how quickly your instrument finds the pitches you sang and other pitches that sound good over this new harmony.

As with all these Groovz Playground quiz tracks, you won’t be given the chords, scales, common tones, or idea starter. The point is for you to HEAR the harmony and let your ear guide your instrument in finding its way through your musical ideas.

Avoid these possible habits:

  • Trying to calculate the key of the track
  • Playing your instrument without first singing in order to orient your ear
  • Running scales instead of melodic ideas

If you struggled to play melodically within the harmony, go back to the original track and play through the scales, common tones, and idea strarter.

It’s likely that you aren’t hearing the harmony deeply enough. Remember that singing will probably help you play more connected to your instrument.
