What? You say you want something with more drama in it? Ok, here it is.

Improvising is not just about hitting all the “right” notes. It is also about hitting the right expression for a particular musical context. So it would sound silly to be running scales be-bopping along as your improvisation. Instead create musical statements that resonate with this more dramatic feel.

As I have done elsewhere, the “Idea Starter” consists of a simple melodic fragment that is repeated using modulated notes. Try also starting with the second fragment first, following that with the first written fragment. Then modulate your own third or fourth variation using these rhythms.

There is a lot going on here, so it’s a chance for you to have fun integrating your phrases into the track’s swirling instruments and voices.
