Introduction

Below is a playlist containing each of the tracks. Preview tracks to find ones you’d like to play over. For each track, listed is the number of chords, the style, and tempo. On the right of each track is the difficulty level based on tempo, chord structure, and key.

Once you find a track to play over, select it in the lesson list to the left or simply start playing without seeing any of the notation of chords, scales, or other elements contained within the lesson itself.

I’ve started to add what I’m calling quiz tracks to many of the Groovz. These are not graded tests or requirements for moving to the next track. Instead, they are identical feels and tempos to the original track, but in a different key. The “test” is to see how easily and musically you can orient your ear to the new key without knowing the chord(s), common tones, or idea starters. All you have is your ear to guide you. The strengthening of that skill, after all, is the purpose of Groovz Playground!

I’ve recently added one new feature that was asked of by a student using Groovz Playground. He asked that I provide an example from me of playing through the various tracks as a further example of what can be played over them. My goal for playing over these is not to impress, but to provide an example of telling a spontaneous musical short story in a way you might not have considered.
