From the Album Fratres
These unique arrangements present two distinct musical worlds: the atmospheric Devils & Angels with rich synthesized backdrop and Bach’s Concerto with string quartet and harpsichord. Both include professionally produced backing tracks.
Devils & Angels
A duet for alto/tenor trombone and bass trombone. The piece is played over a pre-recorded track of modern synthesis and sampling. It is a simple piece in terms of the notes, but does require good intonation, phrasing, and timing with the track.
Bach Concerto in D Minor
From the CD Fratres. You will get the audio track containing the string quartet and harpsichord backing. Moderately difficult but very interesting piece.
“Conversations With Myself” is an original piece I composed for tenor (or alto) and bass trombone, specifically crafted for a performance with Gerry Pagano at the 2018 International Trombone Festival. This arrangement give performers a lively musical dialogue, exploring the expressive interplay between two distinct voices.

Little Black Dress
This beautiful trombone quartet is deceptively challenging. The notes on the parts may look simple enough but performing the interwoven lines with the intended feel and lyricism is not easy.
And Halleluja
This beautiful trombone quartet is deceptively challenging. The notes on the parts may look simple enough but performing the interwoven lines with the intended feel and lyricism is not easy.
Where You Live on the Street
This quartet arrangement is a take off of the standard tune, *On the Street Where You Live*. The bass trombone carries the bass line, so that part must be solid in order to keep the flow of the arrangement.
Thang
Thang is a funky arrangement for four trombones, and provides for some laid back grooving throughout some cool rhythmic interplay between the horns. Keeping the time and groove in this fun tune is the challenge.
Pensive
Pensive is a beautiful medium tempo ballad that weaves flowing melodic lines throughout each of the four parts. Careful attention to dynamics will really make this piece sing.
Choral and Alleluia
Written by Stan Pethel, the Professor of Music Emeritus at Berry College, this beautiful piece consists of a slow first movement followed by an energetic second movement.

This CD is a fortunate intersection of musical growth, versatility, and technological magic. Both trombone performers have range, control, and an understanding of musical performance styles. There is never a lick that is chipped or overplayed. The recordings feature impressive overdubbing of multiple trombone parts with a minimum amount of complimenting tracks ranging from a walking bass line on Yardbird Suite, to a simple tambourine shake on The Dry Cleaner from Des Moines, with the most extra-trombone sounds of heavy percussion on Amazing Grace. There is plenty of tasty improvisation, and to call the ensemble playing "tight" would be an understatement. The blend of Lake's multi-track alto trombone with its slightly brighter timbre, and Pagano's big, always well-centered bass trombone tone, is a rare musical delight.

Album Review
From the International Trombone AssociationAt an undisclosed, highly secretive, and closely guarded location somewhere in the depths of Arizona there exists a meticulously assembled sonic laboratory of new and vintage equipment with one goal in mind. That goal is world domination. The world being targeted is that of the alto trombone, all styles and genres. The genius behind the movement is one Michael Lake.
The latest effort to advance the mission is The Electrik Project.
