Bobby Shew part 1 of 2

"There are two major gifts every jazz musician would want: a good ear and a good internal sense of time."

And as Bobby has thoroughly demonstrated throughout his playing career, he’s been blessed with both.

Bobby had so much great knowledge to share that we created two parts to our conversation. In this part 1, Bobby spoke at great length about the breathing method he learned from Maynard Furguson while playing in his band. Bobby goes through each of the steps that comprise what he called the “wedge” breathing method.

Other topics we discussed in this part include the Air Pivot system, how to play brass with an overbite, and how to get the most from your limited practice time.
