Mark Egan

"From Stanley Clarke, I got a lot of his fluidity of playing sambas. I carried a lot of that through with the Pat Metheny Group in a lot of the fast sambas we played."

Mark has been an in-demand bass player for decades both in live performances and in the studio. His distinctive electric bass sound has influenced a generation of players and helped color those early great Pat Metheny records.

Mark talks about his influences, some technical approaches to his playing, the influence of his great mentor and teacher Jaco Pastorius, and gives a moving tribute to his early bandmate Lyle Mays.
