George Schuller

"Here was this vortex of amazing musicians at the Lenox School, and then Ornette and Don Cherry are brought in by John Lewis and Percy Heath and it disrupts everything. People in favor of what Ornette is doing and people who couldn't understand it."

George has enjoyed a diverse career in music. As a drummer, he’s played with some of the great masters, and he’s also helped document important moments in jazz, notably through his film on the Lenox School of Jazz and the Modern Jazz Quartet.

George discusses the influence of his father, Gunther, and some of what he learned documenting the history of the Lenox School.
